Open Letter to End Peat Sales

Here at Rymer Trees and Hedging, we are incredibly passionate about growing in a 100% peat-free substrate and protecting the world’s peatlands. We strive to be responsible growers with sustainability and environmental stewardship at the heart of our hedging and tree production. This is why we have signed the open letter sent to the Prime Minister on September 9th 2024 from the Peat Free Partnership. The letter calls for the ban of peat within the horticultural industry. The ban has been on the cards for years now. The UK Government first discussed it in 2011 and has since moved the target several times. The target is currently set for 2030, which is too late. You can read the letter below #endpeatsales

The letter has been signed by many like-minded people and we are proud to be in the company of fellow growers, large organisations such as The National Trust, The RHS, Soil Association, Plantlife and individuals including Chris Packham, Jake Rayson and Alys Fowler to name just a few. #peatfree

If you would like to find out more about going peat-free yourself, or want to get our take on it, please get in touch – we love to talk about it.
