UKISG

We recently received a report from the Woodland Trust, confirming that we are now officially UKISG assured. This is fantastic news for Rymer Trees, and it was a lot of work to achieve this certification. We eagerly waited for months to find out, although we were pretty confident that we'd pass.

The United Kingdom and Ireland Sourced and Grown (UKISG) is a voluntary assurance scheme that the Woodland Trust manages. The scheme aims to reduce the amount of plant stock being imported from abroad. This is a good thing for several reasons. By reducing imports, the risk of importing invasive pests and diseases will go down. The industry can also reduce associated air miles and support the UK's plant-related industries. These are values that Rymer Trees supports. There are of course other factors, like seed provenance in relation to future-proof trees, that need to be considered in seed sourcing. We will talk more about these thoughts in the future.

The UKISG assurance scheme doesn't mean that the nursery only supplies UKISG stock, but it ensures that the UKISG stock within the nursery is definitely UKISG. Working to these standards helps nurseries be transparent so that customers can buy with confidence.

At Rymer Trees, we are always looking to improve our methods. We use peat-free compost and produce cell-grown trees and native hedging. The UKISG assurance scheme is another certification on our growing list that shows our commitment to running a responsible and accountable wholesale tree nursery.
