UKISG Assured

Guaranteed provenance - grown and sourced in the UK and Ireland

← Back to Learn

Rymer Trees and Hedging is UKISG assured - a certification managed by the Woodland Trust that guarantees the provenance of our UK and Ireland sourced and grown stock. It was a significant amount of work to achieve, and we're proud to hold it.

What is UKISG?

The UK and Ireland Sourced and Grown (UKISG) assurance scheme is a voluntary scheme that the Woodland Trust manages on behalf of the industry. Its primary aim is to reduce the amount of plant stock being imported from abroad - something that matters for several interconnected reasons.

UKISG assurance doesn't mean a nursery only supplies UKISG stock - it means that where stock is listed as UKISG, it genuinely is. Transparency so customers can buy with confidence.

What it means in practice

Being UKISG assured means we have been independently assessed and confirmed that our sourced and grown stock is genuinely produced in the UK or Ireland - from seed collected here, grown here, by us. Full traceability is a requirement of the scheme, and it ties directly into our Plant Healthy certification as well.

We received our UKISG report from the Woodland Trust after a thorough assessment process. The Woodland Trust confirmed we passed. We eagerly waited months for that confirmation - though we were pretty confident we'd get there.

Why provenance matters

As the climate changes, the provenance of tree seed is becoming increasingly important. Trees grown from seed collected in the UK are more likely to be genetically adapted to British conditions and to cope with our shifting weather patterns than trees grown from continental European seed. This is particularly relevant for our climate-resilient stock, where we're carefully selecting species and provenances suited to the UK's future climate - not just its past.
